The personal media revolution is all about finding our voices, taking back the media, and becoming part of the conversation, according to J.D. Lasica, founder of OurMedia.org. J.D. is on stage at Gnomedex talking about OurMedia and his new book Darknet -- stories about the personal media revolution and the roadblocks to grassroots media. J.D. talks about the power of digital storytelling, showing us something only two people have seen before -- his personal digital photo story about his brother, who contracted MS at the age of 43. The piece, titled Game On, is poignant and personal and clearly makes the point that new media is powerful.
Ourmedia is a global home for grassroots media. They have a network of volunteer monitors doing things like watching out for copyright violations; and they have a laundry list of new things to get into - ratings, social networking, BitTorrent supports, a Creative Commons remix tool.
Ourmedia is looking for volunteers - moderators, hackers, people who know the tricks of the videoblogging trade, digital storytellers, and mostly people who believe in authenticity.
J.D. Lasica also writes for Weblogs Inc.'s Engadget (blatant plug).
